Dad, Tell Me About the Time (62)

ALL ABOUT ME

How tall are you?

In my twenty’s I peaked at just shy of 6’3”. In the decades since then I have gradually shrunk so I was 6’2” most of my life but I am now just over 6’1”. When anyone asks though, and in all my paperwork, I still say 6”2”. Probably a little bit of vanity at work there.

What sports have you played throughout your life?

I am not much for competitive sports. I believe that physically, I am well suited for most sports, but I just have the drive to push myself the way I would have to.

I love being physically active and so I love noncompetitive activities such as skiing, hiking, swimming, running and pretty much anything outdoors. Going back to sports, however, I will list everything I can remember that I’ve done and add a comment or two.

Baseball – I really tried at baseball but while needed glasses in first grade I didn’t get them until third grade and by then I had given up baseball because I could never hit or catch the ball.

Hockey – tried it for a couple of weeks and quit

Basketball – I was actually good at basketball (I was six feet by tenth grade) but I was a nerd, and nobody would pass me the ball so that didn’t last. In our ward basketball team, the coach would force the other kids to pass the ball to me (and I usually made a layup) but they would never do it in a game.

Badminton – I enjoyed the game but never won.

Tennis – I could never get into it, probably because I was never that good and didn’t care to practice like I should have.

Ping Pong – same as Tennis

Raquetball/Handball – same

Curling – I was on the Rosemary curling team and I loved it. We were actually pretty good. I imagine I would still be curling to this day if we still lived there.

What kind of music do you like?

There is some music that I do like but not a lot. If it is the right song, I enjoy listening to music but I prefer most other activities and I prefer silence over music.

When I started running more than an hour at a time it got boring, so I started listening to music and actually had a playlist but then Audible came out and now if I have alone time in a car or running I prefer to listen to a book.

My playlist is about thirty songs long now but here are a few of my favorites.

Dreams                          Cranberries
Thunder                         Imagine Dragons
Wellerman                     Sea Shanty
Dirty Paws                     Monsters and Men
Marry You                     Glee Cast
Home                             Phillip Phillips
New Soul                       Yael Naim
The Sound of Silence     Simon & Garfunkel

I never saw any connection between any of these songs; they seemed completely random to me until one day Kira pointed out that all these songs have a pretty and soft melody with a very defined beat in the background. Who knew?
