Guava's

A week or two ago I walked into the house and smelled an odd smell. It wasn’t necessarily a bad smell but it was very curious and a bit pungent. I asked Lisa what it was but she just shrugged her shoulders. Over the next few days the smell got stronger and stronger but I still got no response out of Lisa and I just couldn’t figure out what it was.

Normally I’m on my own for lunches. Lisa has always faithfully made lunches for the kids but the only way I get a lunch is if I make it myself. The one exception is if she’s cleaning out the fridge. She will then package up left overs for me and send the with me to work. That is always a highlight for me. Well one morning I’m heading out the door to work and there is a bag of fruit on the desk by the door. That is my “take to work” spot so I knew this was a surprise lunch for me. This fruit was something weird that I never recognized but Lisa told me it was Guava. I’ve never had Guava before and I have no idea where she got it from but I was quite excited.

When I got to work I plopped the “zip-lock” back of Guava’s on my desk and went to work. I’d been in the lab all morning and then I come back to my office and sit down in front of my computer and all of the sudden I can smell this same strange smell that I’ve been smelling at home for the past several days. It took me a minute or two before I came to the conclusion that the only thing in common between my office and my home was the bag of Guava’s. Just as I’m about to open the bag and give it the “sniff” test a co-worker walks into my office and says, “What is that horrible smell, it is a very strong chemical smell!!”. I explain to him my experiences at home and tell him I was just about to check. Sure enough, as soon as I open the zip lock bag there was no doubt. We both ate a guava and they turned out to be surprisingly good. Just watch out for the seeds. You could break a tooth on one of those.

Guava juice is one of my favorite things on the face of the planet!!! I drank it EVERY day while I was in Asia and still get it as a special treat for myself now.

Oh my mouth is watering now!

LOL!!! Good fruit that smells funny. I have never heard of such a thing. I hope to try it someday.

I especiallyl ike how they would grind up the guayaba in Mexico and leave the seeds in so they tickled your throat on the way down.

If you think Guayaba smells bad you really don't want to be around Papaya (which literally smells like vomit)

The funny thing is that we emptied the garbage, cleaned the sinks, cleaned out the fridge and still couldn't find where the smell was coming from. One of the ladies I VT picked them from her tree and gave them to me. I like Guava juice also but never tasted one of the fruits from the tree. I sent them with Dad.
