New years Eve

Happy New Years!!! It is strange to think that it is now 2009. New Years Eve was a busy time in the Leavitt house and I slept through most of it. We have three kids at home and they all went different directions. Lisa gave me hope a couple of days ago when I was complaining that we don't go on dates anymore. She said maybe we could go to a movie on New Years Eve when the kids were all gone. It didn't happen.

Alex was going to go to a party with his girlfriend but at the last minute the girl who was having the party got into trouble with her parents and the party was off. They talked about it for a while and then they decided that Amy would go hang out with her sister and Alex would hang out with his friends. This was good for Alex because it just so happens that all of Alex's friends are in college. Nate has been home this semester taking classes at the local junior colleges but tomorrow (Friday) he is heading to Utah and that will be the last of his friends. Do you notice the Mohawk on Alex's head? He is heading off to play "Rock Band" with his buddies.

That lasted for a little while but they all ended up back at the house. Here they are killing each other in "Gears of War".

I was glad to see them move to something more peaceful but this game is called "Lips". Basically it is Karaoke where they score you based on pitch, timing and other stuff. Everyone has a blast but I'm not into singing in public and the noise about drives me insane after a while. I can't complain to anyone however because everyone else (and Lisa is the worst) loves it. I just sit there and watch them.

Sarah went to the stake dance with a group of her friends. They have stake dances here about every other weekend. A group of four stakes take turns hosting the dances. For New Years however, all of the stakes in our area get together and have one huge dance for the kids. I'm guessing that there are about ten stakes that get together and the dance is always in a huge stake center with double chapels. She had a blast and the best part is that some else drove both there and back. I'm always the one who ends up driving so this year was nice.

And then there was Alycia. Her friend Jamie came with her boyfriend, Alycia had Trevor and then Alycia invited her friend Nicole to match up with cousin Travis. For some reason Trevor refuses to smile in his pictures so I decided to throw in this picture of Alycia and Trevor so you can see that he does actually smile, sort of.

Since Alex and his friends were here at the house and also because Lisa is getting sick we ended up staying home. We started a movie but Alex and his friends showed up half way through it and took over the TV. That is probably alright since I was really struggling to stay awake. I immediately fell asleep and slept until just before midnight. At midnight we turned on the TV and watched the final count down at which point Alex and his friends grabbed pots and pans and started banging on them with wooden spoons. They only broke two wooden spoons. We stayed up long enough to get the scoop from Alycia and Sarah and their groups and it was about 3:00 when Lisa and I went to bed. I understand that the rest of the bunch went to bed around 5:30. Alex and his friends were laying on the floor when I got up this morning.

Loud and fun and we both slept through most of it on the couch - that was a first!
