Petroglyph Park

After we left Butchart Gardens we drove around downtown for a bit checking out some of the fancy houses, the cruise boats, and China town, and then we headed home. On the way, we stopped at the cemetary and checked out Doug’s grave. Lisa has been there before but I hadn’t. Carols mother was also buried there.

As we entered Nanaimo, I saw a a sign saying, “Petroglyph Park”. Boyd & Carol pulled over and let Lisa and I take a short walk to some ancient petroglyphs. They were very cool but it was hard for me to figure out what the images were supposed to be. I imagine that the people who study these things clean them up a little bit first.

I could tell that this was a man though.

On Monday we caught the ferry to the mainland so that Lisa could visit her Uncle Mel. He isn’t actually her uncle but Boyd’s first cousin. Mel is starting to go senile and Lisa wanted to get any stories of him that she could but also to see her cousins and get any pictures that she could. It was a good day.

This is a picture of Boyd and Mel.

A picture of Lisa and her cousins.

Left to right, Mel Neidig, Carol Shaw, Boyd Shaw, Mels grandaughter, Melanie, Joan Neidig, Mark Neidig, Lisa Leavitt and Fred Leavitt.

It was a great visit and Lisa got a ton of pictures. On the ferry home we had more ice cream (the Shaws love their icecream) and watched a beautiful sunset.
