Describe what you know about each of your grandmas and grandpas.
Grandma Lybbert was born and raised in Cardston and I only ever knew her as a rather harsh and severe woman. I don’t remember actually having any kind of discussion with her. Part of that could be because they lived in Moses Lake, Washington for all of my life but she did stay with us one summer in waterton and even then she never took the time to get to know me. She was definitely a hard worker.
Grandpa Lybbert was born in Utah but moved to Glenwood as a young child. He was a gentle man and while he would always make a point of saying “hi” to me, he never spoke with me much either. It was obvious that Grandpa loved life and loved people, he was social and loved family get-togethers.
Grandma Leavitt was very quiet and while I thought at the time she was a stern woman, looking back on it, I think she was a very shy woman. While she never spoke to me, she was never unkind.
Grandpa Leavitt was the one I got to know the best. While he didn’t go out of his way to speak to me, if the opportunity ever came up, he always struck up a conversation with me. Because I was young and stupid, the conversations were always about me because he was asking me questions. I wish I had been perceptive enough to ask him quesitons about himself.
Grandpa gave me every haircut I ever had until I left for BYU. It was during those haircuts that we spoke the most.
I should mention a caviot here. While I say that my grandparents never really spoke to me, it is quite likely that I was socially inept enough that I made it hard for them to speak to me. I imagine I answered all questions with single sylabel responses and the absence of memories of visiting with my grandparents is more a reflection on myself than it is upon my grandparents.
